Frequently Asked Questions
Is there dedicated parking at Fox Wood?
Parking in downtown Eureka Springs can be a challenge due to steep, narrow streets and very limited parking. At Fox Wood, we offer a stress-free alternative. We are located on 50 private acres with flat, free on-site parking right at your doorstep. You get the beauty of the Ozark hills without the stress of navigating or parallel parking on them.
Is it better to stay downtown or on the outskirts of Eureka Springs?
Downtown is great for walking to shops, but it can be noisy and crowded. Fox Wood offers the best of both worlds: we are a secluded sanctuary less than 15 minutes from downtown Eureka Springs and only 8 minutes from Beaver Lake (Big Clifty Access). You can enjoy the town’s dining and then retreat to total privacy and quiet.
Where can I find unique glamping or 'one-of-a-kind' stays in Eureka Springs?
If you’re looking for something beyond a standard hotel, our Domes and Cabin were featured on the cover of 417 Magazine. We offer an eclectic mix of 5-star stays:
- The Modern Dome: Sleek, luxury glamping with an indoor jetted jacuzzi tub.
- The Vintage Dome: An adventure-themed stay with an outdoor Japanese Ofuro cedar tub.
- The Chalet: A French-inspired boutique getaway designed for intimacy, with a courtyard, jacuzzi tub and balcony.
- The Cabin: A traditional Ozarks cabin experience with a jacuzzi tub.
Are the glamping domes comfortable in extreme weather?
Unlike basic tents, our domes are engineered for luxury. They feature state-of-the-art climate control systems that keep you perfectly comfortable regardless of the Arkansas humidity or winter chill. We also provide space heaters and electric blankets in the winter, for added comfort!
Is Fox Wood Retreat romantic?
Absolutely. We consistently receive 5-star reviews for “Romance” and “Scenery.” Many guests choose us for anniversaries and honeymoons because of our private decks, stargazing opportunities from the domes, and the peaceful “forest therapy” of the property.
Which hotels are haunted or offer ghost tours?
We haven’t had any guest pictures of ghosts yet, but the guest journals in our cabin do talk about seeing something in the woods resembling a Bigfoot, also known as the Momo or the Ozark Howler.
What are the best things to do near my stay?
Beyond the famous downtown, our guests have direct access to:
- Our Private Trail System: Explore 50 wooded acres on our maintained hiking trails (check the map in our listing photos). We are constantly clearing more trails for guest-only hiking.
- The “Tiger Feed”: One of the most searched-for local quirks! Wake up early and you can often hear the lions and tigers from the nearby wildlife sanctuary during their morning feeding while you enjoy coffee on your deck.
- Beaver Lake: Only eight minutes away, swimming and paddleboarding are favorites for our guests. Hogscald Hollow, is a favorite destination. It’s a stunning primitive cove with waterfalls (like Lover’s Leap) and crystal-clear water. It’s a “primitive” access, so it feels like a true hidden discovery.
- Stargazing: Because we are away from city lights, the “night sky visibility” is world-class. Bring a pair of binoculars!
What are the best cabins for families or small groups?
Many Eureka stays are built for only two people. Our Cabin is designed for versatility, sleeping up to 6 guests. It features a master bedroom with a private deck, a loft that kids and teens love (accessible by a built-in ladder), and a living room bean bag that converts into a queen bed.
Do the rooms have kitchens and coffee?
Every stay at Fox Wood includes:
- The Morning Ritual: A Nespresso machine with complimentary pods, plus a tea kettle and standard coffee maker.
- The Essentials: Our Cabin has a full kitchen, while the Domes and Chalet feature well-equipped kitchenettes.
How clean are the rentals?
We take this seriously: our hot tubs and Ofuro tubs are serviced and sanitized after every single guest, and our cleaning protocols consistently earn us 5-star “spotless” reviews in all of our domes, cabin and chalet.
Do the domes have private bathrooms?
Yes, each dome features a private, interior modern bathroom!
Is there a grocery store nearby for the Cabin kitchen?
Yes, Hart’s Family Center is about 15 minutes away. It’s the perfect place to stock up on supplies for the or to grab s’mores ingredients for the fire pit.
What is the check-out process?
We believe your vacation should end as peacefully as it began. We offer a hassle-free check-out. Simply lock the door and have a safe drive home!

Pro-Tip: If you’re coming from the south through the Boston Mountains, we recommend arriving before sunset—not just for the safety of the winding roads, but to catch the mountain views from your private deck as the sun goes down!
Romance, Adventure & Local Secrets
Is Fox Wood Retreat good for honeymoons or anniversaries?
Absolutely. We are a premier choice for couples seeking privacy and intimacy. Adrenaline seekers will find us perfectly positioned. We are a short drive from the Lake Leatherwood Gravity Project and the expansive OZ Trails system in Northwest Arkansas. If you prefer to stay on-site, our private 50-acre trail system offers rugged Ozark beauty right outside your door.
What are the best water activities nearby?
We are just 8 minutes from Beaver Lake (Big Clifty Access) for swimming and kayaking. For a more “hidden” experience, we recommend a trip to Hogscald Hollow to see the waterfalls and rock formations. If you need gear, local shops like Float Eureka are nearby for paddleboard and kayak rentals.
Local Landmarks
What should we see during our stay?
Wildlife: We are neighbors to the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge. Guests report the unique experience of hearing the lions and tigers roar during their morning “tiger feed” from the comfort of their private deck.
Architecture: Don’t miss Thorncrown Chapel or the historic winding streets of downtown.
Dining & Music: For a local vibe, head downtown to Local Flavor for dinner or catch live music on the balcony of the Basin Park Hotel.
